Retail companies spend nearly $20 billion on energy each year. Through improvements in energy performance, retailers can reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and enhance corporate profitability, all while reducing the carbon footprint of retail stores. A 10% decrease in energy costs has an equivalent impact on operating income as a 1.26% increase in sales for the average retail store.
Customer service and satisfaction are high priorities in the retail sector, and retailers can be hesitant to engage in activities that can be perceived as reducing comfort, convenience, or the brand experience. However, through improvements in energy-efficiency, retailers can increase customer comfort and display social responsibility to consumers—adding value to the brand and enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty. Retailers can reap these benefits while reducing operating expenses.1 Retail Fact Sheet PDF
