Retail companies spend nearly $20 billion on energy each year. Through improvements in energy performance, retailers can reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and enhance corporate profitability, all while reducing the carbon footprint of retail stores. A 10% decrease in energy costs has an equivalent impact on operating income as a 1.26% increase in sales for the average retail store.

Customer service and satisfaction are high priorities in the retail sector, and retailers can be hesitant to engage in activities that can be perceived as reducing comfort, convenience, or the brand experience. However, through improvements in energy-efficiency, retailers can increase customer comfort and display social responsibility to consumers—adding value to the brand and enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty. Retailers can reap these benefits while reducing operating expenses.1

The Many Benefits of Energy-Efficient Upgrades

  • Reduce energy and water costs
  • Increase employee comfort
  • Enhance light and air quality
  • Reduce maintenance and extend equipment life
  • Contribute to a more sustainable future

Earn Cash Incentives

Retailers can take advantage of Delmarva Power’s standard incentives for installing new, energy-efficient equipment. Cash incentives are also available to customers planning unique equipment and system upgrades and process improvements. If you are planning energy-saving improvements that are not eligible for standard incentives, you may be eligible for custom incentives.

Delmarva Power pays cash incentives for qualifying energy-efficient improvements, such as:
We also offer enhanced incentives to small businesses, non-profits, faith-based organizations and institutional customers that have a monthly demand of 60 kW or less over a twelve month period. These enhanced incentives are available to customers once the Quick Energy Check-Up provided by the program has been completed. Many of the eligible Small Business Program incentives cover up to 80% of the program-estimated installed cost.

Additional Incentive Opportunities

Additional Savings

Enhanced incentives are offered through the Small Business Program. If your building has a monthly demand of 60 kW or less over a twelve month period, you may be eligible for a Quick Energy Check-Up (QEC) and enhanced incentives. The QEC and the installation of low cost measures (up to $250) will be completed at no additional cost by a service provider of your choice.

Project Snapshot

Retailers have access to technical and financial resources to improve lighting, upgrade heating, ventilation and controls systems and build high-performance buildings. Below is an example of a recently completed project at a local retail store. delmarva supported the project with advice early in the process and cash incentives after the system was installed, helping the customer save money, improve comfort and boost productivity.
